Welcome to the New Site!

Sweet God, what have I done?
Happy Labor Day, kiddos. For those of you loyal enough to make your way here independent of hype machine, I commend you. You probably noticed that the layout for the site is looking a little bit different, but that’s not the half of it. I’ve completely moved over to self-hosting, just like I mentioned I would, and switched from wordpress.com to wordpress.org (I’d tell you more about what that means, but computer talk is LAME). There’s a lot of tweaking going on in the back end of the site, so it may take me a while to get things up and running. Perhaps the most noticeable of these is that I’m currently figuring out a way to put the mp3 player back into my posts easily, because right now all my old posts are showing the short coded player (aka the [audio=] you’ll see if/when you click through the archives. I’d like to rant about how silly it is that wordpress.org wouldn’t be able to handle the dumbed-down technology of wordpress.com, but, again, computer talk is lame. Also, I’m going to work on threading comments again (aka having the reply option under comments).
One thing that’s cool about the new site is that I’m getting data like never before about my visitors. For example, in the hour the stat program was up last night, you all spent 5 minutes apiece on the site, which isn’t too shabby. A total of 117 unique visitors were logged, which is also cool, because I’m only friends with 115 people on Facebook (so the other two are probably my parents). But it’s not all about me spying on you — tell me what you’d like to see in Animal Show 2.1.2 (2.0 was when we moved to theanimalshow.org)! And not just tech features; what do you want to read more about, who do you want to see more of, who do you want to hear more from? LEAVE ME COMMENTS! It makes my site look cooler. And that’s what this is all about.
And thanks again for reading. It’s not often that I take the time to thank my loyal readers, but you guys make the work all worth it.
Especially when you bitch because I’ve left the site to languish for too long.

greetings from one of the people who is not your facebook friend! nice blog, best one i’ve ever encountered, in fact — and i’m definitely here to bitch bc you’ve let the site languish too long…..
i’m liking the commentary about the ethics of purchasing music vs downloading for free — you should engage in a discussion on this subject with someone like george teren whose livelihood does depend on it, and who doesn’t get rich from concert tours bc he’s a songwriter and not a performer. just a thought — i don’t actually know what he’d say, but you (and your readership) might find it as interesting as i would!
