Remember that inspired blog entry by Edward, where he said a lot of well-thought out things about Walter Murphy, and ended with a slick metaphor about Funk and throwing up? Also, there was a good deal of confusion of who did what when and why, culminating in everyone involved other than Soulwax him/her/itself commenting? Well, it made me think about The original “A Fifth of Beethoven,” and what that must have been like back in the day (it apparently was #1 on a pop chart for like a week!) so I went hunting for it. And found it!

Probably.

It’s also listed as belonging to Electric Light Orchestra, but it sounds just like the 30-second sample on iTunes from Walter Murphy. The World May Never Know.

P.S. Walter Murphy and ELO, when you guys comment to clear this up, just know that I’m not the one hosting this file, K? Everyone should tab right over to the iTunes music store and buy this and everything else that shows up when either Walter Murphy or ELO are searched for.

Also, Here’s just the Soulwax remix portion of the two hour radio mix alluded to in the comments of Edward’s post

After that phenomenal post by icebergxc, I was thinking a lot about Walter Murphy, perhaps better known as “that guy who writes the music for Family Guy and that other show from the people who brought you Family Guy, American Dad, which I never watched but is apparently still on TV? What gives with that? Do people actually watch that? Man, I don’t understand American consumer trends. You realize people still buy Metallica albums, too?” Yep, I was thinking about that dude. And, twenty-five years before he did those shows, he made a blip on some radars with a 5-year solo career, in which he recorded other people’s music, funkified. Beethoven was one of his victims. John Williams was another. But let’s talk Beethoven.

Maybe you’ve heard of “A Fifth of Beethoven,” which has experienced “the Animal Show bump” of late, resulting in its e-biquity as a sample in innumerable mashups, including those two in icebergxc’s post. Lucky for us, Soulwax remixed its brains out, taking an already-funky song to Funky-town, and making it ride the Funkoaster until it puked its Funkel cakes out all over the other passengers. And now we can listen to it. I’m excited, are you? Just make sure your Funkel cakes are well-digested before you ride.

So remember that time that I blogged a blog about some new songs from Party Ben? It was all like “these are some good songs, but there is another one that he hasn’t released yet, so chill out a sec, willya?

He released that last one. It’s a lively mashup of Justice, Kanye West, Soulwax, and Walter Murphy he’s calling “Let There Be Love/Beethoven Lockdown”. As the format of the title implies, it’s got this tight two-part thingy going on, but is best taken all together for maximal effect. Truly, it is a work, one of those where the instrumental works so hard that you just want to sing along with it even though you’re not an instrument. Also, the video for this one is really really tight, check it out on Party Ben’s site.

In case you were wondering, the Classical groove that you taste is from Walter Murphy’s “A Fifth of Beethoven”, the same song that popularized A plus D’s mega (well, as mega as mashups get) hit Beethoven’s Fifth Gold Digger. If any mashups can be said to be played out, this is one (the other being Boulevard of Broken Songs by Party Ben).

But before I start to ramble, here’s what you came here for:

Author insert a music with WS Audio Player
(Download) this music.
